Our own desire for quality products led us on a harsh and enlightening trek through the nine realms. We now desire to share our discovery with the inhabitants of Midgard.
We adhere to two principals within all of our products: First, mead shouldn't taste like medicine; Second, hot sauce shouldn't just be hot, it should enhance the flavor of your food. At Norse Hall, we place these principals first among all of our products, from the delicious hot sauce that spices up your food in both flavor and heat, to the thirst-quenching mead that washes it all down. Food and drink should taste great, and at Norse Hall, we've got you covered.
As three life-long friends, we have treated each other and those around us with honor, integrity, and respect, the same defining traits we extend to everyone who becomes part of the Norse Hall family: friends, employees and customers alike. Everyone is welcome in our Hall. We specifically disavow hate groups which have co-opted norse mythology for their own misguided purposes.
Why Norse? Well, mead is the oldest form of alcoholic beverage known to this realm, a fermented delight first attributed to both Egyptian and Scandinavian cultures in recorded history. We aim to pay homage to the old sagas and mythology in each of our products, not just by shilling products, but by telling stories. Whether it be the product names themselves or the bad-ass imagery on the cans and bottles, we invite you to learn more about the historical societies responsible for mead's creation.
Surtr's Wrath (pronounced "sur-tur"), a traditional Carolina Reaper sauce, is only for the boldest of adventurers wishing to challenge their palate with a flavor arising from the blazing rivers of Muspelheim. According to legend, Surtr will one day take up his flaming sword in a war against the gods, destined to obliterate the nine realms and destroy Midgard forevermore. Are you ready to stand toe to toe with the flaming giant?
Loki played one trick too many, resulting in the death of Baldr, son of Odin. For his treachery, the gods had him bound in stone and suspended a venomous serpent above his face. Sigyn, Loki’s ever devoted wife, sat by his side with a basin to collect the venom which dripped from the viper’s fangs. Sigyn’s Venom is inspired by this Nordic tale. With its tangy lime and sour grapefruit notes, this verde is the type of sauce you will want over everything on your plate. Like Sigyn herself, no matter the dish, Norse Hall has you covered.
Freyr, twin brother of the goddess Freyja, is commonly associated with fertility, prosperity, and good weather. Many tales sing of Freyr's praises, as ancient Scandinavians believed that they owed their harvests as much to Freyr as they did Odin. This sauce, inspired with veneration for Freyr's reputation of peace and bountiful harvest, is a well-rounded, immensely flavorful, and accessible addition to any great feast!
The original Norse Hall hot sauce that started it all. Couch Burner doesn’t share its name with Norse legends, because it celebrates our proud heritage as West Virginians. With its fragrant blend of Mango, Ghost Chili, Carolina Reaper, and Habanero, it’s a sauce that is as wild and wonderful as the State from which we hail. After all, some say that in the mountains, they burn couches…
What should you call the mead that serves as the support for all others that follow? How about naming it after the serpent that encircles Midgard in his grasp? Jormungandr, the sleeping giant, the son of Loki, destined to fight Thor in an epic battle during Ragnarok, serves as inspiration for the mead which shares a commonality with all of our other craft mead products.
Mead is traditionally a celebratory drink. So much so that Odin, as a final act of victory over the many cultures and races in the nine realms, would steal away each culture's coveted mead to share in celebration in Asgard. The ice giants, of course, did not favor such action. They therefore made this special mead out of blueberries which pierced the snow, much to the envy of the one-eyed Allfather.
Gullinbursti, a golden-fleeced boar gifted to Ferry from dwarves brothers Brokkr and Eitri, provided everlasting light from his golden bristles. This legend of prosperity adorned many battle flags and hearths alike. Our strawberry mead evidences a bountiful spring harvest, a sign of Gullinbursti's approval.
To die in battle meant that a soldier's soul would be carried to Valhalla by the great Valkyries, Odin's personal host of angelic shield-maidens, to fight an eternal battle as part of Odin's personal army. Our apple butter mead is designed to quench your thirst and keep you going, heeding the Valkyrie's Call.
In midsumar, nordic tribes would gather harvests and attribute the most ripened and sweet fruits as a sacrifice to their Norse gods. These offerings, called blots, were sacrificed by burning, effigy, or burial, in a mid-summer celebration. Midsummarblot pays homage to this celebration, incorporating only the sweetest cherries, apples, and peaches.
Yeah, probably not the best idea to go into detail about this here. Yeah, we know scholars disagree as to whether this punishment was fact or merely fiction. Search it at your own risk. But know this, the darkened reds of this mead, through utilization of cranberry and blood orange, is well suited for a name of this caliber.
Based on the advice of a good friend, "make it something you can easily doodle on the back of a bar napkin." Our logo is actually a stylized combination of runes which stand for the initials of Norse Hall. While we went through several renditions, we feel that this sharp iteration serves as a modernistic take on ancient tradition, just like the mead that fills our cans.
